“We smile for the photo”: the manufacturing secrets of the souvenir shots of François Uzan’s film

It all starts with an album. In “We smile for the photo”, Thierry Hamelin (played by Jacques Gamblin) obsessively digitizes and classifies his old holiday snapshots, to the point of driving his wife Claire (Pascale Arbillot), his son Antoine and his daughter Karine (Pablo Pauly et Agnès Hurstel). While Claire announces to him that she is leaving him following thirty years of marriage, Thierry convinces her to leave one last time with their children to “redo” the family vacation spent twenty years ago on a Greek island, in 1998.
