Senior actor Lee Il-woong, who appeared in dramas ‘Comrades’ and ‘Taejo Wang Geon’, has passed away at the age of 80.
Born in Uiseong, Gyeongsangbuk-do in 1942, the deceased made his acting debut in 1961, and began to appear in dramas as a 4th-generation talent in KBS in 1964.
He took on his first leading role in the daily drama ‘Mr. Lee’s Excited’ (1970), and also worked together as Shim Bo-soo in the drama ‘Shimcheongjeon’ (1971), which made the late Kim Ja-ok a star.
He mainly played the role of a North Korean officer in anti-communist dramas such as ‘Europe Express’ (1976), ‘Comrades’ (1983), and ‘Now in Pyongyang’ (1982~1985). He was active in ‘The Fourth Republic’ (1995), ‘The Fifth Republic’ (2005), SBS ‘The Age of Wilds’ (2003), and ‘The Land’ (2004).
On KBS, he appeared as Pan-su in the long-lived drama ‘Jujube Tree Love Caught’, and gave short but impressive performances in the historical dramas ‘Taejo Wang-geon’ (2000-2001) and ‘Daejo-yeong’ (2006).
The deceased has been visiting churches for over 10 years, performing monodrama, and has served as a public relations director for the Korea Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
The funeral is in room 101 of the funeral hall at Kyunghee Medical Center, and the funeral is at 6 am on the 13th.
