Two months ago, Warner Bros. Montreal finally set the new release date for its next great video game Gotham Knights. This week, the title that will expand DC’s rich universe in the video game universe is once once more being talked regarding to announce news that is not likely to please everyone. The studio has just announced that its next video game will leave some consoles aside.
A next-gen game
Last week, gamers were delighted to discover the gameplay extract of Gotham Knights. The WB Montreal studio was particularly generous by revealing some of the in-game content in a 13-minute long video. There was plenty to discover the potential of the video game which, although part of the Batman universe, will focus mainly on its offspring.
The announcement resonates with owners of old gen video game consoles as a reminder of the upcoming obsolescence of their machines. Warner Bros. Montreal said in a statement that Gotham Knights will be for next-gen home consoles and PC only. The studio here implies a launch on the PS5, the Xbox Series console and on PC thanks to the Epic Games Store and Steam. Gamers who use PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will therefore not be able to play the game when it is released and that is a shame.
The search for excellence
You are certainly wondering why the studio makes this choice that even very big titles like Grand Touring 7 did not dare to take. Warner Bros. Montreal already has the best excuse. He says he wants to “provide players with the best gaming experience possible.” It is valid. Indeed, developers will be able to focus 100% on the next gen experience without having to worry regarding optimization on older video game consoles. This should allow it to optimally exploit the performance of new consoles without compromising.
It cannot be excluded that the studio wishes to avoid problems similar to those encountered by Cyberpunk 2077. At the time of the game’s release, CD Projekt was coming under heavy criticism due to numerous bugs on PS4 and Xbox One. However, the PC version was very successful. These problems had delayed the arrival of the action-RPG game on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. At Warner Bros. Montreal, we prefer to go directly to the new gen and we understand that.
No change in release date
In this new statement, the Canadian studio reassures that there will be no further postponement of the video game’s release date. The title will be released on the platforms mentioned above on October 10th. Recall that the video game will take place following the death of the dark knight. Batman will not be there. It will give way to the Bat-Family, that is to say Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood.
