Belgians’ natural gas bill has fallen by 500 euros

Despite the surge in energy prices, this is a decrease of 500 euros compared to March, largely thanks to the temporary reduction in VAT but also due to the adaptation of the standard consumption profile natural gas for the residential sector. This was adjusted from April 1, said Tuesday the Creg, the federal energy regulator.

This lower average consumption is intended to be more representative of the reality on the ground. Until April 1, the Creg used an average annual gas consumption of individuals of 23,260 kilowatt hours (kWh). It now stands at 17,000 kWh per year. The energy cost of the natural gas bill therefore goes from 4 euros to around 2.284 euros.

The average commercial price of natural gas, taxes, VAT (increased to 6%) and network costs included, fell from 3,277.53 euros in March to 2,769.23 euros in April.

The Creg decided to lower the consumption profile of private individuals following a survey of distribution network operators, main energy suppliers and consumers.
