Casey W.* (38) and Vicky W.* († 56) disappeared without a trace for ten days. But now the prisoner and the deputy prison chief have been caught. The US police had found the escaped criminal together with the prison guard in Indiana.
“Casey W. is back under arrest,” said Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton on Monday in the US state of Alabama. But the guard, Vicky W., took her own life following a chase – just before she was arrested.
Prison chief injured
The deputy prison chief was injured during the arrest, it was initially said. But then the police confirmed: “During the arrest, the driver of the vehicle shot herself and the passenger was injured.”
The flight, which lasted several days, ended when the wanted people tried to flee from the police in a car. “During the chase, the pickup truck crashed,” which Casey W. was driving, according to the sheriff. The shot followed shortly therefollowing.
The prison boss was taken to a hospital, but she died. Casey W., who had already been sentenced to 75 years in prison for kidnapping and attempted murder, surrendered.
Escape instead of alleged psychologist appointment
The authorities had been searching for the prison warden and the criminal under high pressure. The two should have a relationship. Nearly two weeks ago, 56-year-old Vicky W. had picked up 38-year-old Casey W. from the Lauderdale County jail – allegedly to take him to court for a psychological evaluation. However, the two never arrived at the court and disappeared. It was the last day of work before the prison warden’s retirement.
Until then, the officer had led an apparently orderly life without any major anomalies. Her alleged lover, on the other hand, is a 2.06 meter tall colossus, which the authorities classify as “extremely dangerous”. (AFP/euc)
