FIFA announced, Today, Monday, the match between Brazil and Argentina in the South American qualifiers for the World Cup, Qatar 2022, will be repeated, following the FIFA Appeal Committee rejected the appeal of the Brazilian and Argentine federations.

The Appeals Committee confirmed that the match would be replayed, with a fine of 50,000 Swiss francs (regarding 48,000 euros) imposed on both associations.

The match between the Seleção and Tango teams was scheduled to take place on the 5th of last September in São Paulo, but it was stopped only 5 minutes following the start whistle, following the intervention of members of the government’s health control committee. The Brazilian club and prevented its continuation, accusing 4 players from the Argentine national team of violating the protocol to combat the Corona virus.

Last February, the International Federation decided to replay the match five months following the incident, and banned 4 Argentine players for two matches, with a fine imposed on the Argentine and Brazilian federations.

The Appeal Committee decided to reduce the fine imposed on the Brazilian Football Association from 550,000 Swiss francs to 250,000 Swiss francs (regarding 240,000 euros), and the Argentine Football Association from 250,000 to 100,000 Swiss francs (regarding 95,000 euros).

It is noteworthy that the Brazil team, which qualified directly for the World Cup “Qatar 2022” as the leader of the qualifying group with 45 points, will play in Group G with: Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon. Argentina, which qualified as the second group in the qualifiers, with 39 points, plays in Group C, with Mexico, Poland and Saudi Arabia.
