It is reported that the United States has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the 11th (local time) to discuss North Korea issues, such as the successive ballistic missile launches.

AFP news agency reported on the 9th that, citing a diplomatic source, the US has been considering convening a meeting since late last week. The United States is chairing the Security Council this month. The meeting will be held at 3pm on the same day.

In response, the US delegation to the UN did not immediately respond to the convening of the meeting, AFP reported.

North Korea has held 15 armed demonstrations this year, including three intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test launches.

North Korea launched a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) on the 7th, South Korean time. This was a provocation three days before the inauguration of the Yun Seok-yeol government.

If the Security Council meeting is held on the 11th, it means that a Security Council meeting will be held to deal with the North Korean issue just one day following the inauguration of the Yun Seok-yeol administration.

The United States is concerned that North Korea will resume nuclear tests in the coming weeks, as well as ballistic missile tests.

In response, the United States is focusing on strengthening sanctions once morest North Korea by circulating resolutions on additional sanctions once morest North Korea, such as cutting North Korea’s crude oil imports in half to members of the Security Council.

However, as the permanent members of China and Russia oppose sanctions once morest North Korea, it is unlikely that additional sanctions will be adopted, AFP news agency reported.
