Stefan Mott, a Swiss Pokémon-VGC player, wins the 2022 Indianapolis Regionals. He beats a former VGC World Champion and earns an invite to the Pokémon World VGC Championships in August.
Almost a month ago we last reported on the Swiss Pokémon hope Stefan Mott. At that time, following two strong performances, he was still 200 Championship Points short of an invitation to the World Championship.
He has now surpassed the most recent results once more: He wins the Indianapolis Regionals. That means: 200 CP, 3000 US dollars and the invitation to the world championship.

He prevails in Indianapolis once morest 260 participants. Among them the world champion from 2018, Paul Ruiz. Stefan Mott only loses two games in the whole tournament. In the Grand Final he won 2-1 once morest Jeremy Rodrigues.
But he doesn’t want to set big goals for the Worlds: “I’ve heard many times that the meta and team building in worlds is completely different than before. I’m just going to get some Worlds experience this time and then give it my all in 2023. But of course it would be great if I made it to Day 2.”
Only Sword and Shield World Championship
What is also special is that it will be the first World Championship to be played on the current Pokémon Sword and Shield. Due to the pandemic, the last two World Cups have been suspended.
For Stefan Mott and all other participants there are no references to previous years. And a new Pokémon is also in the starting blocks with Scarlet and Violet. Accordingly, it might be the first and last World Cup to take place on S&S. This also gives Stefan Mott the chance to position himself as the sole sword and shield champion.
The Pokémon World VGC Championship will be held in London in August. So, with the optimal time zone, we can easily follow Mott’s games live.
