Yamaha announces the arrival of the new Tricity 125 urban scooter in France. This practical, stylish and easy-to-use three-wheeled vehicle will be available from the end of July 2022 at the public price of €4,699.
In 2022, the new Tricity 125 is equipped with the very latest EURO5 engine, designed and manufactured using Yamaha’s Blue Core technology, which minimizes emissions while ensuring optimal performance. Incorporating a heavy-duty forged piston and redesigned cylinder head, as well as larger intake valves and an increased compression ratio, the new Tricity 125 engine takes advantage of Yamaha’s Variable Valve Timing Control (VVA) technology which guarantees strong acceleration, dynamic performance and reduced fuel consumption.
New intelligent starter-alternator control unit
The new Tricity 125 is fitted with a 32-bit alternator-starter control unit (SGCU) which fully integrates the electrical and electronic functions of the new engine, including fuel delivery, power generation and the ” Start & Stop”, more environmentally friendly. This SGCU also controls the new smart starter, which combines the separate generator and starter functions of the previous model into one compact unit. This new smart starter spins the crankshaft directly, eliminating the gear noise of the previous system and ensuring extremely quiet starts and restarts.
New silent and intelligent “Stop & Start” system
The quieter and more efficient engine start system is a particularly important feature which complements the new ‘Stop & Start’ system of the Tricity 125 and makes this urban scooter less intrusive and more pleasant to ride in city traffic. The “Stop & Start” system is designed to shut off the engine when the Tricity 125 is stationary in front of a traffic light. Then simply turn the gas handle and the machine will restart automatically. For optimum efficiency, the SGCU constantly monitors driving conditions and prevents unexpected stops and starts, especially in traffic jams where the machine might stop and restart every few seconds.
Stable three-wheel design with two tilting front wheels
What makes the Tricity 125 unique in the 125cc class is its three-wheel configuration with two tilting front wheels that provide a feeling of better stability, both in a straight line and when cornering. The high levels of grip provided by the two front tyres, combined with the confidence of the three wheels, ensure a unique riding experience, which makes the Tricity 125 the perfect choice for novice riders and those considering a switch from two to three wheels. .
Optimized LMW Ackermann steering system
Benefiting from the same link design as the famous NIKEN model and the Tricity 300, the Yamaha exclusive LMW Ackermann steering system of the all-new Tricity 125 has been optimized for 2022. It has a new configuration with a slightly offset bearing axis relative to the steering axis. This new design ensures that the left and right front wheels always describe a concentric arc, even when leaning heavily, giving a more natural and intuitive feel and allowing riders to easily maintain their chosen path.
The Tricity 125’s two front wheels and optimized front axle linkage design promote a sense of confidence, especially on wet or rough surfaces. This technical aspect is particularly important for beginners with a B license who are switching from a car or public transport to the Tricity 125 and who have limited experience of driving a scooter.
Optimized Integral Braking System (UBS)
For a safe and controlled stop, the Tricity 125 is equipped with a Integral Braking System (UBS) which automatically distributes braking force between the front wheels and the rear wheel when the rear brake is applied. On the 2022 Tricity 125, the distribution of braking force between the front and rear brakes has been optimized to guarantee homogeneous and regular braking power.
New LCD dashboard with smartphone connectivity
Tricity 125 riders can stay connected on the go by downloading Yamaha’s free MyRide app to their smartphone and pairing it with the scooter by entering the VIN number. Once connected, the pilot can see in real time on the new LCD dashboard the notifications of incoming calls, social media, e-mails and SMS from his smartphone, and thus stay in touch. Tricity 125 owners can also use the MyRide app to view a range of data such as fuel consumption. Everyone can also compare their riding data with other Yamaha MyRide users, share their riding experiences and export ride information, view photos, compare routes and discover new places.
Electronic contactor with “Smart Key”
For added convenience, the Tricity 125 can be operated without a key when the rider carries the smart key on their person, in a pocket, wallet or bag. The machine detects the presence of the smart key and allows the rider to start and stop the machine, start the engine, unlock the handlebars and open the saddle. This useful little feature helps make it more enjoyable to use.
Styling improvements and new colors
With its sporty and contemporary styling that underlines its modern character, lightness and agility, the Tricity 125 is one of the most distinctive models in the 125cc scooter class. Subtle changes to the bodywork around the footpegs, the main ignition switch, as well as a redesigned rear fender ensure a perfect match between the various technical modifications and the new chassis. The silhouette of the Tricity 125 reinforces the feeling of performance and stability of the front of the machine and transmits the feeling of accessibility and ease of use of this urban scooter to its potential owners. The Tricity 125 model will be available in two new colours: Petrol Blue and Sand Grey, in addition to Matt Grey.
The Tricity 125 will be available from the end of July 2022 at the public price of €4,699 including EMC tax. For more information, please contact your Yamaha dealer.
