Tunisian Anas Jaber returned on Monday to the seventh best place in the WTA rankings, thanks to her winning the Madrid Thousand Tennis Tournament on clay courts.
For her part, Egyptian tennis player Mayar Sherif dropped one place in the women’s world rankings, as the 26-year-old reached 68th place with 1005 points.
Jaber advanced three ranks following her victory in the final on Saturday once morest American Jessica Pegola to achieve the biggest title in her career, and the second following the Birmingham English tournament last year on grass courts when she became the first Arab player to achieve a title in the WTA tournaments.
Jaber, 27, had never before Madrid reached the final of one of the 1000 tournaments and succeeded in her first attempt to win the title.
All positions in the top 18 list changed, with the exception of the lead that was maintained by the Polish young woman, Ega Švientek, while the Czech Barbora Krajicekova returned to the runner-up, at the expense of the Spaniard Paula Badusa.
