AMD Phoenix APU: at the level of an RTX 3060 MaxQ?

We talked a while ago regarding Ryzen 7000 which should have 3 “families” : Raphael for desktop PCs, Dragon for “high performance” laptops and Phoenix for laptops with thinner chassis. The AMD Phoenix family will therefore be a range of APUs made up of a Zen 4 CPU part and an RDNA3 graphics part.

AMD Phoenix APU: a big leap forward for the graphics part?

Phoenix APUs will operate in the 35-45W power consumption range. Nevertheless, according to Greymon55the graphics part of the AMD Phoenix APU might display performance comparable in power to the 60W mobile version of the RTX 3060. Obviously, gamers will wince, but having such interesting graphics power in the heart of an APU is a real leap forward.

The APU AMD Phoenix will also use the 5nm process and other optimizations that might potentially make the iGPU clock even higher. Indeed, it is quite possible that, as for the RTX 3060 MaxQ, depending on the chassis of the laptop and the desire of the user (use on mains or autonomy), a kind of “Dynamic Boost” can be activated. This would obviously lead to higher consumption but might also improve performance.

If the Ryzen range is expected for the end of the year with the desktop version (Raphael), it will however be necessary to wait until the very beginning of 2023 for the two series dedicated to laptops.
