In an awareness video, the Ministry of Health said that this fish is known as the ratfish, the souffle fish, or the rabbit fish, which is widespread in the markets, and leads to death.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that the poison in the fish is “tetrodotoxin” and has no cure so far. The shark is found in the Red Sea and oceans and reached the Mediterranean waters through the Suez Canal
She added that the ratfish lives at the bottom of the sea, and feeds on fish waste and types of toxic algae, stressing that when eating the ratfish, symptoms of poisoning begin to appear within 20 minutes to an hour.
Symptoms may be delayed up to two days, and its poison may cause death within 6 to 8 hours
Symptoms of poisoning include:

2- Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
3- Weakness and paralysis of muscles
4- Low blood pressure

It also warned some traders who skinned the fish and sold it in the form of fillets to hide its features, so that citizens would not be able to know the type of fish, as they are under criminal responsibility that exposes them to imprisonment.
