The inhabitants of 42 apartments were evacuated on Saturday evening following a fire in a seven-storey building on rue de l’Autonomie in Anderlecht. The resident of the apartment where the fire broke out was taken to hospital. The fire started around 10 p.m. in the kitchen of the apartment on the fourth floor.
“The fire was accidentally started by a flame in a pan of hot oil. When trying to put out the fire, the resident knocked over the pan and made the situation worse,” says Walter Derieuw of the Brussels fire brigade.
Residents of 42 apartments were evacuated due to heavy smoke. They were allowed to go home around midnight.
