There’s something wrong there! Nespresso workers in Romont FR discovered a “suspicious substance” between sacks filled with freshly delivered coffee beans from Brazil. The investigators from the Friborg cantonal police carried out an analysis and found that the white substance was cocaine!
On the same day, the police searched the five sea containers that had been delivered to the plant by train that day. More than half a ton of cocaine was discovered and confiscated. Its degree of purity: over 80 percent. The police estimate the sales value on the market at a good 50 million francs.
Capsule coffee should not have come into contact with the substance
“We immediately contacted the responsible authorities,” says the Nespresso spokeswoman. The entire delivery was blocked. “Because the police investigation is still ongoing, we cannot comment further.”
The company assures that they have extremely strict quality controls for green coffee. “The substance in question has not come into contact with our products or the production facilities.”
The capsule coffee, which is produced exclusively in Switzerland, can be consumed without hesitation.
According to the canton police in Freiburg, the drugs were intended for the European market. Around 20 employees from the Federal Office of Customs and Border Security (BAZG) were deployed on site. The canton’s public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation. “What else?” Nespresso brand ambassador George Clooney (61) would probably say.
