Graphics cards: should you still spend your money on an RTX 30 Series?

For the past few weeks, graphics card prices have been on a downward trend. Only now, a new generation is on the way…

Even if the situation is slowly starting to improve, the shortage of electronic components that has plagued us since the start of the pandemic still has a direct impact on supply and prices. Until a few months ago, it was almost impossible to get your hands on a latest generation graphics card and in the best case, you had to pay an obscene bill.

Graphics card prices are finally calming down…

.

Take the example of the GeForce RTX 3060: with its positioning at the heart of the range, it was supposed to represent the choice of reason. Let it be said, this has never been the case! A few weeks ago, this graphics card was trading at more than 700 or even 800 €, while it was displayed at the list price of $329 by Nvidia.

Despite an economic situation undermined by soaring energy prices, things are developing positively for buyers. Supply lines have been strengthened, speculation is slowly calming down, and Ethereum prices are falling. As a result, demand is stabilizing or even contracting in some markets, and it is now possible to find a GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB for less than €500, or an RTX 3060 Ti for less than €600.

The observation is the same for an RTX 3070 Ti: while its price fluctuated between 1200 and 1400 € a few months ago, it is now around 800 € [-33 %]. Ditto for the RTX 3050, which went from 600 to 400 €, or the RTX 3080, whose price drops from 1600 to 1050 €.

… Is this the right time to crack?

Now that the soufflé is falling, the question we ask ourselves is the following: should we (really) take advantage of this price drop to jump on these graphics cards? Nothing is less certain… As you probably know, a whole new generation is on the way, whether at Nvidia, with the RTX 40 series, or at AMD with the RX 7000.

Although no official date has yet been set, some sources suggest a presentation in the fall. If you can wait, then it makes more sense to do so. Otherwise, take advantage of the price reductions to treat yourself.
