(Beijing = Yonhap News) Correspondent Han Jong-gu = Following the Hangzhou Asian Games, the Summer Universiade, scheduled to be held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, has been postponed, state-run Central (CC) TV reported on the 6th.
CCTV reported on the same day, “The International University Sports Federation (FISU) has decided to postpone the 31st Summer Universiade to be held in Chengdu next month.”
CCTV did not disclose the specific date of the event.
The Chengdu Summer Universiade was originally scheduled to be held in April last year, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak and was scheduled to be held from June 26 to July 6 this year.
Earlier, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), which hosts the Asian Games, also announced on the same day, “The 19th, which was scheduled to be held from September 10 to 25 this year, following consultation with the China Olympic Committee (COC), the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (HAGOC), and the OCA Executive Committee. We have decided to postpone the Asian Summer Games.”
The postponement of the Asian Games and Summer Universiade is interpreted as due to the Corona 19 situation in China.
Hangzhou, where the Asian Games will be held, is relatively close (regarding 180 km) from Shanghai, the economic capital of China, where the city has been closed for a long time, so the view that the postponement of the Games is inevitable.
