What you should not overpay for: six not very necessary options in the car

When choosing a car, you should not overpay for options that will not bring the expected effect, the authors of the publication “Behind the wheel” and lead six examples of such “bells and whistles”.

LED headlights

It is not a fact that the optional LED headlights will shine much better than standard halogen ones. As an example, the authors cite the updated Vesta, the LED headlights on which promise only + 10% of the range in low beam mode. At the same time, such optics cost several times more than halogen headlights. Among other things, it cannot be repaired, only the whole thing changes.

Fog lights

On modern cars, they rarely shine “worthy”, writes “Behind the wheel”. A car in the fog due to the low location they will indicate. But during normal driving, it is more important that they shine on the side of the road, and the foglights have almost lost this ability.

Casting

Solid wheels have almost replaced stamped ones even on inexpensive car models. But chasing huge diameters is not worth it. Large sizes, apart from dubious aesthetics, have no other advantages. Only disadvantages: they are more expensive, more often damaged on Russian roads.

Building disc brakes

“Behind the wheel” writes that their editorial Vesta has drum-type rear brakes. “And they have not deserved any claims for six and a half years – the car effectively and reliably brakes in any situation,” the article says. It is noted that the brake pads in them have already worked for 125,000 km and will still serve. “Therefore, it makes no sense to purposefully look for a car with rear disc brakes,” the authors of the publication conclude.

Large multimedia display

The multimedia system is only useful if it gives you access to online services. That is, it is synchronized with a smartphone via Android Auto, Apple Carplay or other protocols. Offline navigation is useless. “And then why else do you need a large color display?”, they ask in the material. And they give an answer – for a more overview image from the rear view camera. But if it is found on budget-class cars, then only in top trim levels.

Climate control

In automatic mode, only complex and expensive systems with a large number of sensors work sensibly. In “budget” cars, there are a minimum of sensors, and therefore the climate on such cars has to be constantly corrected. In fact, it turns out a manual interior cooling / heating system, only more expensive and with an unnecessary Auto key.
