Time passes very quickly and it seems like yesterday that many gamers found themselves in the second half of the 90’s regarding to discover a franchise that combined elements of action, adventure, exploration and everything that we loved regarding Indiana Jones but starring a new heroine: Lara Croft. Many years have passed since that moment and fortunately the saga Tomb Raider is still in force and just celebrated a new sales goal.

Tomb Raider makes history with millions of copies sold

Hoy, Not everything was information regarding the sale of studios and licenses from Square Enix to Embracer Groupwhere part of the transaction involved Tomb Raider. There was also space for the franchise to show off why it is a good investment material and it is that it was revealed that it has already sold 88 million copies throughout its history, and this only counting the deliveries defined as AAA productions, that is, the mobile spin-offs are not part of this registry.

The above is part of an infographic shared by independent analyst Benji Sales highlighting the founding of Tomb Raider in 1996, the 88 million copies that have been sold of the installments in the main line of its history, the 38 million copies that, of that total, come from the recent trilogy that includes the titles Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider y Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Likewise, they highlight the more than 53 million downloads of mobile games and the average of the franchise in Metacritic, 81%.

Although it is not known what changes will be applied now that Crystal Dynamics and Tomb Raider belong to Embracer Group, the expectation is that there will be greater certainty for the new project since it is known that the new Lara Croft video game is in development and the best thing is that it aims to be a great production made in Unreal Engine 5.
