At a welfare facility in Shanghai, China, an absurd incident occurred in which a living elderly person was put in a bag for transporting the body.

According to foreign media such as Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 3rd, recently, at a welfare facility in Shanghai, I mistakenly thought an old man was dead, so I put it in a transport bag and tried to move it to the funeral, but I found out that the old man was alive before I loaded it into the car. .

A video of this situation went viral online on the 1st. In the video, a funeral home employee wearing a protective suit removes the plastic covering the body’s face and leaves the body in surprise. Then he says, “Alive, don’t cover (face) once more.”

The video caused public outrage, and the authorities launched an investigation. The head of the civil affairs bureau in Putuo District, Shanghai was charged with violating party discipline, and some civil affairs officials were dismissed from office.

The doctor involved in determining the elderly person’s death was revoked, and the welfare facility was subject to administrative sanctions. According to the SCMP, a total of six officials were prosecuted for the incident.

However, it is unclear whether public distrust will subside. “This incident is sparking a wave of fear in other containment areas (not just in Shanghai),” the SCMP said.

New Pimingming, a citizen of Shanghai, wrote in a post on Weibo on Chinese social media on the 1st, “In the early stages of the lockdown, in Shanghai, if you are infected with Corona 19, you apologize for ’caused a inconvenience to your neighbors,’ and the residents are encouraging them to ‘get good treatment’. A warm atmosphere was created,” he said.
