Professor Nam Ga-eun wins the ‘4th Young Medical Scientist Academic Award’

Professor Nam Ga-eun of the Department of Family Medicine at Korea University Guro Hospital was awarded the ‘4th Young Medical Scientist Academic Award’ by the Korean Women’s Medical Association.

Professor Nam was recognized for his contribution to deducing results that can be applied in clinical settings by conducting research on risk factors and prognosis of common chronic diseases such as obesity, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes.

Professor Nam has made remarkable achievements in the field of research. He has published 39 papers in domestic and foreign academic journals in the past three years. In particular, as a result of analyzing the risk of dementia due to changes in body mass index and weight by following 167,876 new type 2 diabetes patients over the age of 40 in Korea for an average of 3.5 years, the results of this study showed that the difference between body mass index and weight change and the risk of dementia in diabetic patients. It drew attention by revealing the world’s first relevance. He participated as a lead author in SCI-level international journals for research using big data and was awarded the Academic Award of the Korean Society of Family Medicine four times.

Professor Nam said, “As a family medicine specialist, the results of my research on the treatment, management, and prevention of various chronic diseases seem to have received good reviews.
