The American police are searching for an inmate facing murder who escaped from a prison, and one of the female guards who disappeared with him.
Inmate Casey White and Officer Vicki White were last seen Friday morning at the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office in Alabama.
Officer White said she would take him to a psychiatric evaluation, but it later turned out that this was not planned.
The authorities are investigating whether White was involved in the inmate’s escape or if she was a hostage.
Although they share the family name, there is no kinship between the inmate and the officer. Authorities say Casey White is armed and very dangerous, as he may have seized the officer’s weapon.
Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said Ms White left the detention center with the prisoner at regarding 9:30 following telling colleagues she would take him to court for a psychological evaluation.
She will see a doctor because she is not feeling well, Singleton added.
Shortly following eleven, her car was found in the garage of a shopping center.
The US police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Casey White and the discovery of Officer Vicky White.
“Perfect employee”
Warden White, Singleton said, has worked in the department for 25 years and is the assistant director of the correctional facility, and her duties include getting inmates to court.
Her decision to take the inmate alone was once morest the rules, the official said, as two policemen usually accompany dangerous prisoners in such situations.
He said that all of the officer’s colleagues are in shock because of what happened.
Singleton added that Officer White had been chosen as the employee of the year several times, and that he wanted strong evidence before she was indicted.
“Did you help the accused escape? This is a possibility and we are looking into it of course. Were you kidnapped on the way to court? This is another angle to look at the case.” “As I know the inmate, I think the officer is in danger, whatever the circumstances,” Singleton said.
murder charge
White, 38, is charged with two counts of murders in September 2020 related to the stabbing of 58-year-old Connie Rigway.
The Federal Police said that the accused is serving a prison sentence following being convicted of several charges, including burglary, vehicle theft, and police pursuit.
He confessed to the murder and was awaiting trial in Lauderdale County Jail when he went missing, authorities said.
White had previously planned to escape from prison by taking a hostage, Singleton told ABC News, but authorities discovered the plan, which involved taking hostages, before trying it in 2020.
