Netflix announced the cancellation of the animated series “Pearl”, produced by Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, in a move aimed at rationalizing costs.
The series, which was announced last year, is one of several projects that the giant broadcasting platform has canceled.
And Netflix revealed, last month, a significant decline in the number of subscribers, and warned that millions of others may abandon the services provided by the platform.
This led to losses of more than 50 billion dollars from the company’s market value, while experts warned that it is facing extremely difficult conditions to get back on track.
Archwell Productions, founded by Meghan and her husband Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, announced last year that Meghan would be executive producer on “Pearl”.
The story of the series deals with the adventures of a 12-year-old girl, inspired by women who have influenced history.
Despite this, Netflix confirmed that it will continue to work on other projects in cooperation with Archwell Productions, including a documentary series called “The Heart of the Invincibles.”
The series focuses on the veteran athletes competing in the “Invictus Games”, games founded by Prince Harry in The Hague in 2022.
Archwell Productions did not respond to a request from the BBC for comment.
Netflix also announced that it has decided not to continue working on two children’s animated series titles, “Dino Decker” and “Blessings and Curses.”
The company had announced last April that the total number of subscribers to its platform decreased by regarding 200,000 during the first three months of this year, which is much less than the target set.
Netflix also warned that regarding two million more users may abandon its services, most likely, in the three months to July.
Experts warned that following a very strong period of expansion during the outbreak of the Corona epidemic, the company was unable to continue growing its business.
Consumers, who are under pressure, are seeking to cut back on streaming services in order to save money, while some feel that there is a lot of content to choose from in light of strong competition from “Disney” and “Amazon”.
