The Belgian passport, the most… expensive passport in Europe!

With us, a passport costs up to 350 euros, excluding municipal tax…

The subject resurfaces from time to time in Belgium, the price of our passports is much higher in Belgium than in some neighboring countries. According to the latest prices issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is necessary to count 65 euros per adult and 35 euros for a child. But this is the price in normal procedure (regarding ten days delay), without municipal tax. And this is where the tariff can increase further, since the Belgian municipalities can freely set an additional tax. This can range from a few euros to twenty euros. For example, you will be asked for a tax of 20 euros in Namur, 21 euros in Liège, 12.50 euros in Châtelet or 10 euros in Lasne. Conversely, Saint-Josse has abolished its municipal tax, which a few years ago was one of the highest in the country. Remember that these taxes are to be paid by passport, so the budget can quickly climb for a family preparing for a distant trip.
