Jeonbuk Hyundai and Daegu FC meet in the Champions League round of 16.
Jeonbuk drew 1-1 with Yokohama Marinos (Japan) in the final match of Group H of the 2022 Asian Football Federation (AFC) Champions League group stage held at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on the 1st (local time).
Jeonbuk ended the group stage with 12 points from 3 wins, 3 draws and 12 points. After Yokohama (13 points), they advanced to the round of 16 as 2nd in Group H. However, as they advanced to the round of 16 with 2nd place in Group H, they faced Daegu, who placed 1st in Group F, in the round of 16. In the K League, only Jeonbuk and Daegu advanced to the round of 16.
Jeonbuk and Daegu will play a single match in the round of 16 on August 18 or 19.
Jeonbuk took the lead in the 4th minute. Defensive mistakes were the problem. The ball was lost to Joel Fujita and the goal was conceded to Anderson López. However, Jeonbuk equalized with a goal from Kim Bo-kyung following Ryu Jae-moon’s cross in the 11th minute of the first half.
Jeonbuk coach Kim Sang-sik said, “It was a difficult situation physically due to the weather, environment, food, etc., but I am happy to be able to return to Korea without any major problems.” “Daegu is a K-League team, so we will prepare well because we know each other well. Where is the Round of 16? I don’t know if it will be held at the airport yet, but I will prepare so that I can adapt well to the given environment.”
