The Kerala Games 2022, organized by the Kerala Olympic Association, has begun. Sports Minister V Abdurahman inaugurated the Games at a function held at the University Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.
The opening ceremonies began with a march past starting from Central Stadium. After the cavalry, the Games torchbearers and flag bearers lined up at the march past. They were followed by the country’s proudest Olympic medalists Mary Kom, PR Sreejesh, Ravikumar Dahiya, Bajrang Poonia, Malayalee Olympians Sajan Prakash, Alex Antony, KT Irfan and MP Jabir. This was followed by a line-up of athletes and sports enthusiasts from 14 districts. The march, accompanied by bands, reached the inaugural venue, University Stadium, at 6 p.m. Olympic Association Secretary General S Rajeev welcomed the gathering. Association President V Sunilkumar presided over the function.
Boxer Mary Kom, recipient of the Kerala Olympic Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented with the KN Balagopal Award and Certificate of Merit by the Minister of Finance. Ministers V Sivankutty, GR Anil and Antony Raju presented the awards to PR Sreejesh, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Bajrang Poonia and medalists at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Malayalee Olympians Sajan Prakash, KT Irfan, Alex Antony and MP Jabir received the honor.
Marykom presents awards to Olympic Association Media Award winners District Collector Navjot Singh Khosla, Chief Secretary VP Joy, VK Prashanth MLA, Olympic Association Senior Vice President P Mohandas, Olympic Association Treasurer MR Ranjith, Sai LNCP Principal Dr G Kishore, Dhyan Chand Award winner, KC Lekha S Suhas, Olympic Association Vice President SAN Raghuchandran Nair, Thiruvananthapuram District Olympic Association President KS Balagopal, District Sports Council President SS Sudheer, Arjuna Award winner Padmini Thomas, Dr Viju Jacob, Premkumar, MK Biju and Harikumar were also present on the occasion. The Games will start tomorrow and end on the 10th of this month.
Physical education will be included in the curriculum: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram: Sports Minister V Abdurahman has said that sports education in the state will be included in the curriculum from pre-primary level onwards. He was speaking at the inauguration of the first Kerala Games organized by the Kerala Olympic Association. He said the government aims to create more jobs and investments in sports.
