This was announced by a spokesman for the court. Accordingly, the Federal Republic of Italy accuses of having allowed several new proceedings once morest Germany, despite a judgment of the ICJ from 2012. It is regarding demanded compensation payments for crimes committed by the National Socialists in World War II.

The highest court of the United Nations ruled ten years ago that Germany does not have to compensate Italian victims of National Socialism individually. The federal government argues that the compensation issue has finally been resolved and that new procedures in Italy are therefore illegal. She appealed to the ICJ at the end of 2008 to have it checked whether judgments passed in Italy that obligated Germany to pay compensation are compatible with international law. The verdicts related to crimes committed between September 1943 and May 1945 during the German occupation of Italy.

The judgments of the ICJ are binding. However, the UN court has no instruments at its disposal to implement its judgments.
