The new formula of PS Plus in full transition

This is the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, who told us regarding it himself: the new PlayStation Plus formula will redistribute the service cards offered by Sony by centralizing the functionalities in a single subscription at progressive levels. Beyond just merging PS Plus and PS Now, there are several files Sony is working on for launch and the months following. : recently, we mentioned a demo system allowing players to form a sufficiently informed opinion before giving in to a purchase, or new and potential newcomers in the retro catalog of the PS Plus Premium which are, more and more, the leaked object on the web.

Certainly, Sony has communicated widely on the redesign of PlayStation Plus, on the future of current subscribers, on the exclusives that would join its Extra and Premium program or on the exact date of the launchbut there is an unexpected discovery which somewhat disconcerted the players. Many people have wanted to renew it with a prepaid PS Plus or PS Now card when their subscription was approaching expiry, but not everything went as planned. A little over a day following the incidents, the Japanese manufacturer expressed itself in a FAQ published on its site.

Sony blocks abusive accumulations, a conversion of subscriptions

With such an overhaul, Sony has its work cut out for it and to prevent any type of abuse, the company has taken the decision to freeze re-subscriptions to prevent gamers from improperly stacking subscriptions in an effort to circumvent the new prices of the different levels. While reassuring the players who saw the exchange of their prepaid card being refused, Sony took the time to explain the situation, pressing the fact that the teams are active behind the scenes for the launch.

As we prepare to launch the new PlayStation Plus membership service, we are doing some work behind the scenes to make the transition as smooth as possible for all of our existing members (…) As part of this work, we have temporarily deactivated the roll-up of subscriptions for existing customers until following launch.

If you currently have a PlayStation Plus or PlayStation Now subscription, due to the changes we are making to the service before launch, you will not be able to redeem a prepaid card code (…) Rest assured that your prepaid card code always remains valid and you can use it either when your current subscription expires and is deactivated or following the launch of the new PlayStation Plus service in your region, whichever comes first.

As you will have understood, you will have to wait for the expiry of your subscription or the launch of the new PlayStation formula to be able to renew your subscription. Note that when deploying the new formulas, a conversion will be applied according to the three levels as you can see below.

  • Twelve months = 365 days of PS Plus Essential / 219 days of PS Plus Extra / 183 days of PS Plus Premium
