the multi-device mode would allow two phones to be associated simultaneously

While the first betas of multi-device mode led us to believe that no other phone might have been simultaneously connected to your WhatsApp account, the latest findings from WABetaInfo tend to prove the opposite.

It’s been a while since the multi-device mode of WhatsApp is under development. This future flagship feature is eagerly awaited, as it would facilitate the use of the platform on many scales. Today, it is indeed impossible to connect simultaneously to one’s account on two different telephones.

Also, the web and desktop versions of WhatsApp cannot do without a phone connection to work well. The multi-device mode would therefore turn this whole system upside down… without taking mobile devices into account. Indeed, until then, smartphones seemed excluded from the plans.

A new section that says a lot

In June 2021WABetaInfo had shared an explicit screenshot in the matter and on which was written the following message: “ Your phone will no longer need to stay online to use WhatsApp on the web, computer, or Portal. Up to four additional devices and a phone can be used simultaneously».

The observation was therefore as follows: using your WhatsApp account from two different phones and simultaneously would not be part of the update. Except that the messaging platform would have finally changed its mind with regard to the latest finds once once more signed WABetaInfo.

Indeed, the latest beta version of WhatsApp — 2.22.10.13 — brought up a new section that allows you to register a companion device, in order to use WhatsApp on it. Three steps are described:

  • Open WhatsApp on your phone;
  • Go to settings and select “Associate a device”;
  • Point your phone at the screen and scan the QR Code.

Android tablets also affected

The third step concerns a secondary smartphone, with which it will be necessary to scan a QR code to connect more easily. From there, you might then switch from one phone to another to chat with your loved ones without having to reconnect to your account each time.

WABetaInfo also suggests that an Android tablet might very well be associated. For the moment, no deployment date has filtered in the beta. It will therefore be necessary to be patient before seeing the color.

A new WhatsApp feature is currently appearing on the side of beta testers. When sending a photo, a much more visible button with the name of the recipient appears.
