The FC Barcelona stadium, which is in dire need of renovation, will undergo extensive modernization from June. The club announces that the renovation of the Camp Nou, which has been approved by the city council, can begin immediately following the end of the season. The conversion should be completed during the 2025/2026 season.
According to the plans, the team only has to “move” in the 2023/2024 season. Then the home games will be played in the Olympic Stadium on Montjuic. Despite the work, Barcelona will still be playing at the Camp Nou next season, albeit with a slightly lower capacity. This will also be the case in 2024/25, but then with a capacity of only 50 percent.
The EUR 1.5 billion project, which is intended to guarantee the club additional annual income of EUR 200 million in the future, includes an increase in stadium capacity by 10,000 seats to 110,000 and the expansion of other club facilities. The financing through loans is fully secured, says club president Joan Laporta. FC Barcelona has a debt of 1.35 billion euros. (SDA)
