With the early deficit chasing them down, the home side needed a few minutes to get into the game. After almost a quarter of an hour, it became really dangerous for Eintracht when Jarrod Bowen shot at the post (14th).

The Londoners deservedly equalized in the 21st minute. After a header from Kurt Zouma, Mikhail Antonio scored from close range to make it 1-1. The English then invested a little more in the game and created more chances. But the Frankfurter appeared more times in the opposing danger zone.

In the first few minutes following the change of sides, the pace wasn’t too high. Both teams neutralized each other in midfield. In the 54th minute, Kamada gave the visitors the lead once more. After Djibril Sow failed with a low shot by the defending Alphonse Aréola, the Japanese brought the rebound into the goal from a short distance to make it 2-1.

After that, Eintracht focused on defensive work – with success! West Ham took over the more dominant part, but only relatively rarely managed to get into promising final positions.

In the 68th minute, Saïd Benrahma, who had just come on as a substitute, was awarded a free kick. Superstar Declan Rice heaved this into the wall, Benrahma put the rebound on the top right of the outer post.

Eleven minutes later, Frankfurt also failed because of the aluminum. Craig Dawson deflects a mid-range shot from Kamada and the ball hits the post.

In the final phase it became extremely dangerous for the Bundesliga club once more. In the second minute of added time, the Hammers hit the woodwork for the third time that night. Rice crossed from the right corner of the box into the center, where Bowen waited and caught the underside of the crossbar with an overhead kick. The ball bounced on the ground and from there on Kevin Trapp’s buttocks. Then Tuta clarified.

Eintracht Frankfurt saved the narrow lead somewhat happily over time and thus created a great starting position for the second leg in a week. Since RB Leipzig also the semi-final first leg won once morest Glasgow Rangers 1-0lives the dream of a purely German final in the Europa League.

The votes for the game:

Oliver Glasner (Eintracht Frankfurt coach): “This performance is really good. The way we got out of here really impressed me. We play forward, put the opponent under pressure. It’s impressive how confident the lads are. But we still have a little bit to improve for the second leg .”

Sebastian Rode (Captain Eintracht Frankfurt): “It was the tough game we expected. We had a lot of good moves and defended well. We hit the post, they hit the woodwork. I’m happy with the result and also with the game. Now we have the second leg at home. The stadium will be sold out and we will give everything to get to the final.”

Kevin Trapp (Eintracht Frankfurt): “I’m not surprised by our performance. We can do it when we’re fully focused – we’ve proven that many times. Tonight was another highlight for us. We wanted to take the first step towards the final.”

Ansgar Knauff (Eintracht Frankfurt): “The club, the fans, the city – we’re on an incredible journey here. We’ve analyzed West Ham. I think we did a good job of preventing their high crosses on their big players tonight – and that will be for the second leg will be crucial.”

David Moyes (Trainer West Ham United): “We recovered quite well from the shock of being 0-1. But we didn’t show enough quality, especially in the last third in front of the goal. We definitely have to do better in the second leg. Our standards were extremely weak today, maybe weaker than it has been in two years.”

Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United): “After the 1-1 draw we had a chance to score another goal but didn’t do it. They’re a top team, we’re disappointed. We hit the crossbar, the post. We didn’t want to lose at home but we did showed that we can hit back away from home.”

The tweet regarding the game:

That was noticeable: once more not to zero – once more no problem

The Adler have conceded at least one goal in their last nine Europa League games, but have not lost once. Never before in the history of this competition has a team conceded at least one goal so many times in a row without having to admit defeat. In the Bundesliga, the Adler conceded two goals three times in a row, but in contrast to the Europa League they suffered two defeats and no wins. However, if the SGE continues to be so successful on the international stage, they will certainly be able to cope with more goals conceded.

The stats: 35

With his 35th game in this competition, Trapp became the record player in the German Europa League.
