the essential
The Joshua Perez trio takes the MJC stage this Friday at 8:30 p.m. Léo Watremez, Thomas Quere and Joshua Perez took advantage of the artistic residency to record a jazz album, in line with the history of gypsy jazz.
Last January, the Joshua Perez trio appealed for crowdfunding via a platform. It was a success. And as good news never comes alone, here they are in artistic residency at the MJC in Rodez, until Friday, April 29.
Self-taught musician, from a family of artists, the Aveyronnais Joshua Perez began to play the guitar from an early age and to perform very early on stage. The 26-year-old Ruthénois has played, among others, with David Reinhardt, Eva Slongo, Marc Fosset and Marc Perez (his father, with whom he recorded his first album).
For the second album, he teamed up with Léo Watremez on guitar and Thomas Quere on double bass. They form a trio that is in line with the history of gypsy jazz, from Django to Bireli… The three musicians, who became friends, met in Tour, where they currently reside. Joshua Perez left Rodez, looking for scenes to perform. Tour gave him many opportunities to play outdoors, with his two accomplices. For the first time, the trio will therefore perform on a real closed stage, and with a jazz-loving audience. Regarding the instruments, note that this group consists of two guitars and a double bass. A lead/solo guitar, a rhythm guitar and the double bass which supports the guitar and does the bass lines.
At Jazz Mines in May
The three musicians are planning two recordings (one live, this Friday and the other without the public). The album will certainly be a result of this mixing.
If the young artists take advantage of good conditions for the recording of their album, as part of the artist residency, they will also have the chance to offer a great show this Friday, April 29, at 8:30 p.m.
It will also be a springboard for the Mines de jazz festival in Decazeville. The Joshua Perez trio will play there on May 5, 7 and 8, during followings (festival off). The young artists will offer “gypsy swing” around the great standards of Django Reinhardt (from 11 p.m., in the Apibd premises).
