After the El Metkoub controversy, Miraoui calls for the promotion of “Chikhate”

Following the recent debate and controversy surrounding ” Leprosy », Abdellative MiraouiMinister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, called on citizens to be proud of the art of «Chikhates », and different styles of Moroccan musical heritage «because it is our heritage».

Miraoui declared, during a press conference, held on Tuesday to present the main lines of the new educational model in universities, that this device aims to bring students closer to Moroccan musical heritage. An approach that will promote the different repertoires of Moroccan music and folk dances.

The government official believed that opening up universities to traditional Moroccan art and including artistic education in school and university curricula would help discipline students.

The Minister of Higher Education added that the promotion of artistic and cultural heritage will lead students to love the country and appreciate all its musical styles, including Leprosy.

“When I mentioned the art of Leprosyyou laughed, when we should be proud of this art and other musical genres, and make our children proud of it”, emphasizes Miraoui.

The discord was triggered by the statements of the Salafist Sheikh Yassin Al-Omari regarding the soap opera, giving rise to reactions divided between indignation and support for these popular artists.

The minister’s remarks, like the story of the series in question, shine the spotlight on the negative view that Moroccan society still has of this profession, despite the presence of the songs of the Leprosy at the heart of all Moroccan festivals. songs in content might constitute life lessons denouncing injustice and carrying values of independence. The names of many sheikhs in Morocco are associated with solidarity, bravery, patriotism and rebellion…Kharboucha is a clear example.
