Diamondbacks score 2 after error and beat Dodgers

Zac Gallen pitched six scoreless innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks scored twice following Max Muncy’s throwing error in the eighth inning to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Gallen gave up two hits and led 1-0, but Ian Kennedy (2-1) gave up Trea Turner’s RBI single in the eighth.

Arizona regained the lead in the bottom half when Daulton Varsho scored from the start on Muncy’s throw to right field on Sergio Alcantara’s sacrifice bunt.

Matt Davidson put the Diamondbacks up 3-1 on a grounder off Daniel Hudson (1-1).

Nick Ahmed homered, while Mark Melancon pitched perfectly in the ninth for his fourth save, in Arizona’s first series win over the Dodgers since Aug. 29-Sept. 1, 2019.

Arizona had a pair of hits.

The Mexican Julio Urías, starter for the Dodgers, allowed one hit – Ahmed’s home run in the fifth inning – throughout his six innings.

For the Dodgers, Puerto Rican Edwin Ríos 4-1.

For the Diamondbacks, the Dominicans Ketel Marte 3-0, Alcántara 2-0 with a run scored.
