Motorola unveils a smartphone that relies on its finesse and its screen

After the Edge 30 Pro, here is the Edge 30… period. Motorola today unveils a version of its high-end 2022 smartphone, launched a few weeks ago. The iconic brand, which has been trying for three years to return to the top of the bill, this time offers a less expensive product (from around 500 euros), at the price, inevitably, of a few technical concessions.

At the heart of the smartphone, there is therefore a Snapdragon 778G + chip, SoC obviously less efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 of its elder, accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of non-expandable storage.

Specifications that meet its price positioning. Motorola, on the other hand, seeks to distinguish itself by the design of its smartphone, which it presents as the “thinnest 5G mobile on the market”, with only 6.79 mm thick. A small feat that also has a cost: the battery has a capacity of 4020 mAh, when many smartphones in this price range reach 4500 or even 5000 mAh now. We will see during our tests if the relatively energy-efficient 778G+ corrects this small weak point.

For the rest, the Edge 30 takes up a good part of the characteristics of the Pro version. Admittedly, the POLED screen is slightly smaller (6.5 inches), but retains the same definition (2400 x 1080) and above all the same refresh rate at 144 Hz.

In the photo too, the Edge 30 is rather promising, since it offers exactly the same copy as its Pro counterpart on the back, with a 50 Mpix (f / 1.8) main sensor with optical stabilization, and a sensor ultra wide angle of 50 Mpix also (f / 2.4). No telephoto lens, but a third depth sensor of 2 Mpix is mainly used to improve the rendering of portraits. On the other hand, the selfie camera is content with a 32 Mpix sensor.

The Motorola Edge 30 is available today, at a price of 499.99 euros for the 128 GB version and 549.99 euros for the 256 GB version. An introductory offer, available on the Motorola site until 15 May, allows you to obtain a discount of 100 euros for the purchase of the 128 GB version and 50 euros on the 256 GB version.
