Thiruvananthapuram: The first Kerala Games organized by the Kerala Olympic Association will be held from May 1 to 10. Sports Minister V Abdurahman will inaugurate the Kerala Games 2022 on April 30 at 5 pm at the University Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.
About 7,000 athletes from 14 districts are participating in the Games. There are 24 competitive events included in the sports championship. This is the first such sports fair in India.
Thiruvananthapuram Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium, University Stadium, Pirappankode Swimming Pool, Central Stadium, Sreepadam Stadium, Jimmy George Indoor Stadium, Vattiyoorkavu Shooting Range, Trivandrum Tennis Club, YMCA, Kollam Hockey Stadium and I’m Stadium, Kollam Hockey Stadium.
Tokyo Olympics medalists Ravi Dehya, Bajrang Punia, Lovlina Borgohain and PR Sreejesh will be honored with Rs 5 lakh and a citation. Malayalees who participated in the Tokyo Olympics will be given Rs 1 lakh each and a citation.
The 2020 Lifetime Sports Achievement Award presented by the Olympic Association will be presented to boxer Mary Kom. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a citation.
As part of the competition, a 21.1 km half marathon, 10 km run and 3 km fun run will be held on May 1, 2022. In the half marathon category, the winners will receive Rs 11 lakh, one of the largest prizes in India.
The sports photo exhibition as part of the Kerala Games will start on April 30. The exhibition will be held at Vellayambalam Engineers Hall till May 10. The exhibition is jointly organized by the Olympic Association, the Kerala Media Academy and the Kerala Journalists’ Union. In addition, the Kerala Games Expo will be held at the Kanakakunnu Palace in the heart of the city.
As part of the expo, a 10,000 sq ft flower show will be organized at Kanakakunnu. To add to the charm of the fair, art and cultural events will be held for 12 days.
