Mask made mandatory again in Kerala; Fine if not worn

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has made it compulsory to wear a mask in Kerala in view of the increasing number of Kovid cases across the country. It is mandatory to wear a mask when traveling in public places, meeting places and work places. It is also proposed to levy fines on those who do not wear masks. However, it is not clear how much the fine will be.

In states like Delhi and Tamil Nadu, the mask was recently made mandatory once more. Failure to wear the mask will result in a fine of Rs 500 in Delhi and Tamil Nadu.

Minister Veena George had said that although the spread of Kovid was not a cause for concern in Kerala, vigilance would continue in other states in case of high cases. The minister had made it clear following a high-level meeting online that wearing a mask was mandatory.

There is a slight increase only in Ernakulam district. There is stability in other districts. The situation is being reviewed at the district and state levels. Currently no clusters have formed anywhere. The new variant will be tested for viruses. Kovid figures for the last two weeks will be published soon. The assessment is that the Kovid cases will continue like this for a while longer. Vaccination will continue at the panchayat and ward level.
