Behind the high occupancy rates in the province’s emergency rooms, there are doctors and patients for whom this situation is having serious consequences.

For Dr. Mélissa Ranger, emergency physician at Charles-Le Moyne Hospital, this is a “never seen” situation.
“I would almost say at certain times and in certain emergencies that these are dangerous situations for patients because it would be wrong to say that we are able to provide quality care to patients when we are swimming in the middle of a tsunami”, launches the doctor.
She criticizes the way in which the traffic rate of an emergency is calculated differently according to the hospitals, so that the figures are often biased.
“The inevitable is going to happen on occasion, because you can’t be optimal in these conditions,” says Dr. Ranger.
However, she wants to reassure the population. The health staff always do their best.
However, she says she is anxious regarding the way the population of Quebec is treated when they end up in the emergency room.
