(dpa) Spain’s King Felipe VI. gave deep insights into his finances for the first time. Completely surprisingly, the 54-year-old revealed his assets totaling almost 2.6 million euros. A measure of “transparency”, as the Madrid royal family emphasized in its statement, which neither Felipe’s father and predecessor Juan Carlos nor other monarchs in Europe had previously dared to do. The reactions in Spain were not long in coming: while conservative media praised the step, some in the highest terms, anonymous and well-known critics of the monarchy, which was burdened by numerous affairs, took the king to court.
