A department dedicated to conservation?
PlayStation has recently created a department dedicated to the preservation of video games. It was via Garrett Fredley, recently hired by the editor, who announced it through a tweet in which he talks regarding his first day as Senior Build Engineer :
Today is my first day as a Senior Build Engineer at @PlayStationworking as one of their initial hires for the newly created Preservation team!
Game Preservation was my first career passion, so I’m ecstatic that I get to go back to those roots ????

Today is my first day as a Senior Build Engineer at PlayStation, one of their first hires in the newly created Curatorial Department. Video game curation was my first professional passion, so I’m ecstatic to return to my roots.
PlayStation: retro games where and for what?
What do we know regarding this new department? And well in addition to its creation, not much. We therefore hope that PlayStation will communicate on this subject in the weeks or even days to come, even if we can have an idea of the various projects to which this new team will be subjected. For example, there are still questions regarding the PS VR 2 : it is not known if the new virtual reality system from PlayStation, made official at the start of the year with Horizon : Call of the Mountain will be compatible with the games of the first PS VR.
On the other hand, it is also the redesign of PlayStation Plus that commits PlayStation to retro games: expected for June 22, this new model includes a subscription plan Premium which offers the ability to download PSP, PlayStation, and PS2 games as well as the ability to stream PS3 and PS4 games. This formula is therefore committed to preserving the legacy of PlayStation.
An initiative that is not shared by all manufacturers: last February, Nintendo announced the 3DS and Wii U digital stores closed. It will take place in 2023 and will make any purchase or use of credits on these shops impossible. And in its Frequently Asked Questions regarding this closure, Nintendo states “not planning anything in the future to resolve the situation“. An initiative which had then provoked the anger of the Video Game Heritage Foundationwho had accused Big N of destroy video game history.
