Faithful to its commitment to multiply the PC portables equipped with OLED screens, Asus announced two new products this week: the ZenBook 13S and ZenBook Pro 15 Flip. The first is a 13-inch ultraportable powered by an AMD Ryzen 6000 chip; the second a 15-inch machine armed by Intel both in terms of CPU and GPU, thanks to an Alder Lake processor (12th generation) coupled to a graphics card Intel Arc.

Let’s start with the ZenBook 13S. The device uses a design quite close to the ZenBook 13 OLED launched last year, with a thick frame of regarding 1.5 cm for just under 1 kg on the scale, but spices it up with more original colors: Ponder Blue, Aqua Celadon, Refined White, and Vestige Beige (visible above). Another novelty in terms of design: a change of logo. The brand trades its big “Asus” acronym for a stylized “A”. A novelty that should logically be found on other models of the brand in 2022.

Two top-of-the-range machines… at a steep price

In terms of specifications, the device relies on the best with a 2.8K OLED touch screen in 16:10 format. OLED obliges this panel is very reactive (0.2 ms of response time announced), but also benefits from a generous luminance: 550 cd / m2 maximum according to Asus. The device’s connectivity includes three USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports supporting power and display, but also a headphone jack. A priori, however, you have to ignore a USB-A port.

Under the hood of this ZenBook 13S OLED is installed a latest generation AMD Ryzen processor. We can choose between a Ryzen 5 6600U and a Ryzen 7 6800U, coupled with a maximum of 32 GB of RAM (LPDDR5). The storage can be extended up to 1 TB in SSD.

For now, Asus has not yet announced a specific launch date for this new product. We also do not know what its price will be, but the current ZenBook S (without OLED screen) is trading at around 1500 euros in starting price.

More efficient, but also a little more bulky, the Zenbook Pro 15 Flip OLED is aimed at advanced users and possibly creative people. It relies on a latest generation Intel configuration, combining a Core i7-12700H and a dedicated Intel Arc A370M graphics card as much as possible. There is for the rest up to 16 GB of RAM “only” and 1 TB of SSD storage.

On the display side, Asus gratifies us with a 15.6-inch 2.8K OLED panel (2880 x 1620 pixels) here too, capable of going up to 120 Hz. This screen is however limited to a somewhat outdated 16:9 ratio in 2022, when 16:10 and 3:2 formats abound.
