At least 40 arrested after looting a supermarket in Talagante

At least 40 people were arrested following 8:00 p.m. this Monday a group of regarding 200 individuals forced their way into a supermarket located near the Plaza de Armas in the commune of Talagante, in the Metropolitan Region.

It all started late at night when an undetermined group of subjects erected incendiary barricades on public roads. The situation was taken advantage of by the antisocials, who forced their way into the commercial premises of the Tottus chain, located on Eyzaguirre street in the aforementioned town.

According to data from the Provincial Presidential Delegation of Talagante, personnel from the 23 Police Station and the PDI work at the scene, who managed to arrest people while they fled with items stolen from the supermarket.

Colonel Carlos Rojas, of the 23rd Police Station, indicated that “thirteen workers who were inside the supermarket were rescued by Carabineros and in that first instance we also managed to arrest 26 subjects and up to the minute we have had around 40.”

For her part, the provincial presidential delegate of Talagante, Stephania Duarte, indicated that “we are evaluating all the measures, together with the colonel, the case is still in process (…) and we have to continue supervising other supermarkets in the province. ”.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Talagante, Carlos Alvarez, condemned the looting, which he described as “a criminal act, pure and simple, that generates public calamity in our neighbors, generates restlessness, generates annoyance.”

“A small group of people (…) commits this outrage that, in my opinion, has no justification and as we have always done as a municipality, we always give legal support so that the penalties that correspond to these illicit acts are carried out” , he added.

Those apprehended will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry.
