The successor to the WH-1000XM4 is on the way from Sony. The latest model in this popular line of around-ear headphones with active noise cancellation was released in the summer of 2020. The new reference, in other words the WH-1000XM5 (Sony and its poetic product names …), is revealed through a leak at TechnikNews.
Among the most obvious changes is the design: while the XM3 and XM4 were identical, the XM5 dusts off and simplifies the shapes of the helmet. The earcups also seem larger.
The button on the headset will obviously allow you to switch from one listening mode to another (ANC, transparency), there is also a 3.5 mm jack port, as well as a USB-C charging port. According to the site’s source, this new model will integrate three microphones, Bluetooth 5.2 and two processors to improve active noise cancellation. The battery would benefit from greater autonomy (40 hours, ten more than the XM3).
It only remains for Sony to remove all the gray areas, in particular on the price (the XM4 revolves around 325 € currently). Answer maybe this summer…
