a new video touts the authenticity of the game

A “less Hollywood” opus than COH 1 and COH 2 according to the developers.

In July 2021, SEGA and Relic formalized Company of Heroes 3. This third opus of the famous eponymous franchise does not yet have a release date; it should in principle disembark in the course of the year. In the meantime, the developers regularly report on the progress of the game through “Developer Diary” sequences. In their latest video, they emphasize authenticity and historical realism; they insist in particular on the care given to the modeling of the various units and vehicles of the game.

About the vehicles, Kristian Bourdage explains for example that unlike the previous Company of Heroes games, where the damage and wear of the vehicles were represented by a few predefined models, those displayed in Company of Heroes 3 respond to more complex simulations: according to the developer, the slightest bullet or shell impact is perfectly localized. Later in the video, Kristian Bourdage talks regarding unit uniforms, which are highly customizable.

More responsive units

Another speaker, Amar Allen insists for his part on the historicity of the various equipment, tools and accessories present in / on the vehicles. In another register, Michael Mussellam claims that COH 3 adopts “a more realistic and less Hollywood approach” than COH 1 and COH 2.

Finally, the so-called Tristant Brett concludes by promising an improvement in the behavior of units on the battlefield; an improvement mainly induced by better reactions to nearby events. He declares : “Units adapt much more to their environment, for example when planes fly over them or an enemy is close, their position changes, which shapes a more authentic battlefield than before”.

Heading for the Mediterranean theater of operations

Company of Heroes 3 will abandon the Western Europe and Eastern Europe frontlines operated by Company of Heroes 2 to focus on those around the Mediterranean. The page Steam of the game warns: “More awe-inspiring than ever, Company of Heroes 3 combines thrilling combat with even more complex strategic choices in a sublime Mediterranean theater of operations. In Company of Heroes 3, every battle has a story… So what will be yours? “.

As a reminder, Company of Heroes 2 will celebrate its tenth anniversary next year; Relic’s RTS was released on June 25, 2013.
