New Delhi: The crucial meeting of the Congress party began at the residence of President Sonia Gandhi. The meeting will decide whether to accept the suggestions made by election strategist Prashant Kishore ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Prashant Kishore has suggested that the Congress should contest alone in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha. It can compete in alliance in Tamil Nadu, Bengal and Maharashtra. He also suggested that the Congress should focus on 370 constituencies.
The Congress has resumed talks with Prashant Kishore following a major setback in the Assembly elections in five states. The Congress started talks with Prashant on the recommendation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. The first discussion was on formulating strategies for the Gujarat Assembly elections later this year. He demanded crores of rupees for taking over the Gujarat mission. The demand to give charge of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was also raised later. After that, he also demanded leadership.
Meanwhile, the party leadership is opposed to the inclusion of Prashant Kishore in the Congress. It is learned that some leaders, including Digvijay Singh, have told Sonia Gandhi that she should be excluded from the party in the role of advisor instead of being given a higher post in the Congress. The opinion is that Prashant should not be made the almighty who controls the leadership from within the party. Some of the leaders pointed out that the Congress might not contain Prashant’s method of interfering in appointments at the organizational level.
