Known as “Ostbahn-Kurti”
The Austrian musician and human rights activist Willi Resetarits is dead. According to a “Krone” report, he died on Sunday in Vienna at the age of 73 as a result of an unspecified accident. The star’s family, who was also known as his fictional character “Ostbahn-Kurti”, confirmed this to the newspaper. Resetarits was known for reinterpreting famous international songs in Austrian dialect.
On Twitter, Austria’s Chancellor Karl Nehammer (49) honored Resetarits with the words: “The death of Willi Resetarits really shakes me. He accompanied me through my youth & I went to many concerts. He inspired generations with his songs. His feeling for the worries of the people that he processed in it will remain unforgotten.”
His fight for a good cause
Resetarits opened the Vienna Refugee Ball last Saturday. Away from music, he put his heart and soul into various human rights organizations. He founded the Integrationshaus Wien and was a co-founder of Asyl in Not and SOS Mitmensch.
