Looking down from the sky, you can clearly see that the buildings on the ground have been removed so as to intersect the station. The construction site of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen, which goes on at JR Nagoya Station. Full-scale construction is regarding to begin underground.

Due to the fierce opposition of Shizuoka Prefecture, the construction of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen connecting Tokyo / Shinagawa and Nagoya by JR Central has not yet started in the Shizuoka construction area. Regarding the water resources of the Oi River, which is a controversial issue between JR Central and the prefecture, a national expert meeting compiled an interim report in December last year that the impact on water flowing in the middle and lower reaches and groundwater is small. There is no sign of giving up to. The opening of business in 2027, which was the goal of JR Central, is no longer possible.

Construction is steadily progressing in construction areas other than Shizuoka. However, as the construction began in earnest, accidents became more prominent. In October last year, a collapse accident occurred at a tunnel construction site in Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, killing and injuring two workers. After that, accidents occurred one following another at tunnel construction sites in multiple prefectures such as Nagano in November last year and Aichi in March this year, including minor ones.

The total length of Nagoya Station is 860m

Under these circumstances, JR Tokai disclosed the construction site of Linear Nagoya Station to the press on April 13.

Linear Nagoya Station is an underground station. It will be installed so as to cross a cross with Nagoya Station on the Shinkansen and conventional lines. At the Sakura Dori exit where skyscrapers are lined up in front of the station, it connects directly under the JR Gate Tower, and at the Taiko Dori exit on the opposite side, it connects to the north side of Bic Camera. A huge space will be created underground from the surface of the earth to 30-40m, and two island platforms and four lines will be installed there. The length of the platform is regarding 400m. With the addition of equipment such as upper and lower crossover lines, the total length of the station will be 860m and the maximum width will be 60m.

In linear tunnel construction, different construction methods are required depending on the characteristics of the area and the ground. For example, in mountainous areas, the NATM method is used, in which the surface of the excavated area is hardened with spray concrete and then the bedrock around the tunnel is fixed with bolts and concrete, as in general tunnel construction. A shield method is used in which the cutter digs while shaving the soil while being protected by the concrete.
