Toto Wolff apologizes to Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton, following finishing the race at Imola, admitted that he wants to quickly forget this weekend, and it can be understood: the seven-time world champion did not earn points, taking only 13th place.

The head of the Mercedes team, Toto Wolff, was forced to apologize to his driver: when he returned to the pits, such a dialogue took place between them on the radio.

“I’m sorry you had to drive such a car today,” Wolff said. – I understand that it is impossible to pilot it, and in order to fight for high results, we deserve more. The race was terrible, but we will leave it in the past and move on.”

“Don’t worry, Toto. We must continue to work hard,” Hamilton replied, and Wolff assured him that the team will definitely get out of this difficult situation.

After the race, the head of the Mercedes team commented on its results, praising George Russell, who took a decent 4th place and beat off all the attacks of Valtteri Bottas in the last laps.

Toto Wolff: “George performed very well, given the kind of car he had to pilot. We did not have time to correct the angle of attack of the front wing, which was adjusted for rain conditions, and not for racing on a dry track. But he did a great job and really had a really great race.

If we talk regarding Lewis, then for him everything turned out unimportant. When a driver is in a line of cars and everyone can use DRS, he simply cannot overtake.

George showed what our car is capable of on a free track, but it is clear that for a seven-time champion, such a car is not good enough. We just have to correct her shortcomings.

I think, preparing for the stage in Miami, we can do something. I think we can move forward in terms of understanding the features of W13. We just have to continue to study it and upgrade it to eliminate the problem of destabilization of the machine at high speeds.
