The Noje of the late Han Seung-heon (1934-2022), who is called the first-generation human rights lawyer, is also held in Jeonbuk.
The Jeonbuk Branch (Minbyun Jeonbuk Branch), a lawyers group for a democratic society, announced on the 24th that it will hold a labor tribute to the late lawyer Han Seung-heon at the plaza in front of the Chonbuk National University headquarters from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm on the 25th.
This day’s event will be moderated by Kim Yong-bin, the head of the Jeonbuk branch, and will be held in the following order: Kim Seung-su, Mayor of Jeonju City, a tribute to poet Kim Yong-taek, and a tribute to Wang Ki-seok.
An official from the Jeonbuk branch of Minbyon said, “The deceased, a founding member of Minbyon, has been in charge of numerous national cases and human rights defense since he started working as a lawyer in 1965. He became a lamp. We will strive for a better tomorrow than today. We pray for the well-being of the deceased,” he said.
The deceased was born in Jinan in 1934. After graduating from Jeonju High School and Chonbuk National University, he passed the 8th High School Examination Department in 1957. He was commissioned as a prosecutor in 1960 and worked at the Tongyeong Branch Office, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Ministry of Justice, and the Seoul District Public Prosecutor’s Office.
As a lawyer, Dong Baek-rim case (1967), Unification Revolutionary Party case (1968), Mincheong Hakryun case (1974), Inhyuk Party case (1975), Kim Dae-jung rebellion conspiracy case (1980), President Roh Moo-hyun impeachment case (2004), etc. He is called the ‘first-generation human rights lawyer’.
