At the very beginning of the followingnoon, an incident occurred on rue Sainte-Walburge. According to information reported by witnesses, a building collapsed opposite the Alvo store. Building located at number 413.
Debris quickly spread over part of the public road. Still according to a testimony, several people were seen getting out of the cloud of dust…
This is the building located in front of the car wash, the whole being under construction.
According to the first elements communicated by the Liège police, workers were working in the building shortly before the events. “They heard creaking and evacuated before the collapse“, it is reported.
However, searches were carried out in the rubble, with the support of a federal police drone and a tracking dog, to ensure that there were no victims.
In order to facilitate the intervention of the emergency services, rue Sainte-Walburge has been closed to traffic and local diversions have been put in place. This caused some embarrassment in the neighborhood.
Late Saturday followingnoon, the Liège police indicated that traffic had been restored, except at the site of the incident. A demolition company was dispatched to the scene to bring down what was left of the building.
Once the search in the rubble was completed, the Liège police confirmed that no casualties were to be deplored.
Debris removal operations are expected to continue into the evening. This portion of rue Sainte-Walburge therefore remains closed until further notice. Traffic is therefore diverted upstream and downstream.
