Maduro replaces ministers just four months after appointing them

Nicolás Maduro appointed this Friday Juan Arias as Minister of Industries and National Production and Juan Carlos Loyo as the new representative of the Fisheries and Aquaculture portfolio. This in replacement of José Gregorio Biomorgi and Olga Luisa Figueroa.

Biomorgi had been appointed to the post four months ago, while Figueroa was appointed two months ago.

“Compañero Juan Arias, from now on, has the responsibility of directing the Ministry of Popular Power for Industries and National Production.” This is what Maduro wrote in his account in Twitterwhere he announced the appointments.

He assured that the new Minister of Industries has the task of “continuing with the economic recovery, through the promotion of the productive sectors.”

According to the state channel Venezolana de Televisión, Arias is an economist, graduated from the Central University of Venezuela. And he is specialized in the areas of statistics and data analysis.

Previously, he was Minister of Basic, Strategic and Socialist Industries, in 2016. Also, Vice Minister for the development of Special Economic Zones, as well as ambassador and alternate representative of Venezuela before international organizations in Geneva.

Arias will replace José Gregorio Biomorgi, appointed Minister of Industries on December 8, replacing Jorge Arreaza.

In addition, Maduro announced the appointment of Juan Carlos Loyo in the fisheries and aquaculture office, replacing Olga Luisa Figueroa, who had been appointed to the same position on February 9.

«I appointed Juan Carlos Loyo as the new Minister of Popular Power for Fisheries and Aquaculture, who from now on assumes the daily work together with the fishermen and fisherwomen of the Homeland. We are going to work as a team and together with the people, for food sovereignty, “said the president.

Loyo is also an economist, graduated from the University of Carabobo, and has studies in governance and development at the Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB).

In 2005 he was Deputy Minister of Economic Development at the Ministry of Popular Economy, from 2006 to 2010 he served as President of the National Land Institute and from 2010 to 2012 he was Minister of Agriculture and Land.
